daddy and donuts

D and I took Katelyn out for a family breakfast.

Southern Maid donuts is a Missouri City institution.  It is minutes away from Elkins High School and on any given weekday, the shop is crawling with Knight students, getting a sugar rush before first period.  It is also especially known for its famous kolaches.

I'm not sure why fry sauce is ubiquitous in Utah but can be found no where else.  It is delicious and I love it but you just don't see it in the other 49 states.  I also don't understand why kolaches haven't traveled far from the great state of Texas.  They are glorified pigs in a blanket and when I say glorified, I mean it.  They are glorious.

We slept in (thank you Katelyn) and made it to the store by 11.  We were cutting it close - about two thirds of the donuts were gone already.  Luckily, there were some left still.

We had a delightfully delicious time.  Even Katelyn got to try a few tastes of cinnamon sugar cake donuts.  She loved it!
