a very happy half birthday

Baby Kate had her six month check up this afternoon.  The good news is that she is perfectly healthy and is growing at just the right rate.  The bad news is that there were shots involved.

yes, that's barefoot contessa on in the background.  what can i say?  katelyn and i watch ina every day.  how great is that?

Katelyn did so well with the shots.  She only cried for a second and spent the rest of the day playing and laughing like nothing had happened.  And then bedtime came around...

Right before bedtime, Kate started to get fussy.  He little legs were warm and she yelped any time they were touched.  Nursing became a challenge because her legs got pressed up against the couch.  D tried feeding her a bottle of breastmilk but she just wasn't happy with that either.

Soon fussy turned to whimpering and whimpering escalated to completely inconsolable.  Poor little Katelyn was miserable.  She didn't want anyone touching her lower half so we had to cuddle her up to our chests and rock her.

Hearing your baby cry in pain is like nails on the chalkboard of your soul.  I know that's dramatic but that's just how it feels.  D reached a stress level of epic proportions and I was reduced to tears.

When I am sick, there are three things that make me feel better, Diet Coke, ibuprofen, and a bath.  My mom and I figured that a bath would help her relax.  It did; it relaxed her so much that she pooped in the tub.  We called out a Code Brown and D took the tub out to the backyard to dump out the dirty water.  Sadie (the dog) ate the excrement.  Gross.

A call to the after hours nurse and a dose of Tylenol later, little Katelyn finally nestled into her daddy's chest while he rocked her and sang quietly.

I'm happy to say that after a long night of singing, rocking, and cuddling, Katelyn is peacefully asleep.

dalton's accident

I had an accident with a scooter. :(

Dave and I took a trip up to Park City for the afternoon.  I needed to complete a geography assignment that required me to drive through Midway to observe certain geographic features.  We decided to make a day of it and visit the condo to drive the scooters.

We were driving around a nearby neighborhood and I was being a little bit careless by driving in the middle of the road.  Pretty soon, another car came driving the opposite direction and I panicked.  Instead of moving to the right side of the road, I swerved to the left, hit the curb, and wiped out.

It wasn't really a bad fall and I only scraped up my arm but it was pretty scary.  By the time we made it back to the condo, I was really shaken up and started to cry.  I could tell that Dave was really worried after seeing me fall.

When we got back to the condo, I realized that the water had been shut off.  My arm was all bloody with dirt and gravel in it so Dave went to the store to get some medical supplies.  He came back with water, bandages, and beautiful flowers to make me feel better.

He took such great care of me and made me feel so special. :)
