fun in the sun!

Katelyn had her fourth birthday party this morning.  She invited all of her friends and we planned on having a "Fun in the Sun" themed birthday party with sprinklers and wading pools out in the backyard.

We were nervous all week because the weather report predicted an 80% chance of rain for today.  I made some back up plans in case we would be stuck inside and hoped for the best.  This morning, as Dave and I were getting everything ready for our guests, we looked out the window to see a wall of dark clouds rolling our way.  Fortunately, it rained for a few minutes and the clouds moved by quickly.  We had a beautiful sunny day for Kate's pool party!

Kate and her friends had so much fun sliding into the pool, running through the sprinkler, and playing a relay game with cute little watering cans.

My mom made the most adorable beach cake for Kate.  She created a very detailed ocean side scene of Teddy Grahams sunbathing on little licorice towels and swimming in the ocean with their "Life Savers."  It was perfect for our "Fun in the Sun" party.

Kate had so much fun today.  She is so lucky to have so many great friends.  Thank you to everyone for making Kate's fourth birthday party such a terrific day!

setting sail with st. luke's

Last weekend for Dave's work Christmas party, we went on a lunch cruise!

At first, we felt a little bad for leaving the kids with my parents for so long.  The cruise left from Kemah which is a little over an hour away from where we live and the boat was going to be cruising for three hours.  That's a long time for poor Grandma and Grandpa to be on babysitting duty!  We almost decided not to go but my mom talked us into it.  I'm glad we went because we had such a fun time!  Thanks Mom and Dad!

For lunch we were served Cornish game hens with apple sausage stuffing and little baguettes that were delicious.  I had never had Cornish game hens before and I've always thought they were so fancy!

After lunch, we went upstairs to an open air deck and enjoyed the view.  We cruised up and down a channel that had beautiful and definitely expensive homes on either side.  We had a great time just enjoying the breeze, talking, and watching Dave's fellow employees' crazy dance moves.

But by far, the highlight of the cruise was definitely when I got to sit in the captain's chair and blow the horn.

super duper party

Happy Super Bowl!!!  That seems an appropriate greeting to me because it feels like the Super Bowl has kind of turned into an extension of the holidays.  We here at the Winn/Robertson house love a good reason to party so that works well for us.

Mom and Katelyn baked homemade fresh bread for tonight's party.  Kate loves to help cook and she calls everything she makes waffles.  She made waffles with my dad once and the name just stuck.  One of her favorite things about making waffles is eating both the batter and the dry mix.  Today she tasted the flour in the bowl and was sort of disappointed that it wasn't waffle mix.  When my mom added the sugar though, Kate took a taste and exclaimed, "Grandma, this is SO good!"

I think we may a little chef in the making.

Every good chef knows how to clean up after herself.

Grandpa didn't want to take his eyes off the game even for one second to take a picture.

Father and son Super Bowl time!

Four generations of people who couldn't care less about the game.  We're just here for the good food and company.
