one twentieth of a century

Tonight Dave and I celebrated five years of happy marriage.  I remember when having a five year anniversary sounded so old and dignified.  I don't know why five years has always sounded like a big number but it has always felt like sort of a milestone.  The weird thing is that it feels like just last year we were standing outside in the freezing cold to take pictures in front of the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

We went out for dinner at Cafe East and spent the evening reminiscing about our wedding day.  Here are a few of the highlights we remembered.

The morning of our wedding, I tore one of the contacts from my only pair.  I am incredibly near sighted so I was faced with the decision of spending my wedding day blind in one eye or wearing hideous glasses.  I was devastated.  So I did what any bride would logically do.  I called Dave and left a sobbing tearful voice mail asking him to call me back.  He was sure I was calling the wedding off.  Luckily, my dad heard the commotion and removed a contact FROM HIS OWN EYE and the day was saved.  Meanwhile, Dave called nearly every optometrist in Utah Valley and secured an extra pair of contacts so I wouldn't have to spend a honeymoon in glasses.

The day of our wedding was FREEZING cold and our photographer told us that she could get some really great photos if we were willing to hike a bit.  I didn't know she meant on a paved sidewalk.  I was expecting an arduous trek across a snowy field so I wore boots under my wedding dress.  I was a little embarrassed about it at the time but, looking back on the pictures, I love seeing the snow boots under my dress.  It makes me smile every time.

Our reception was perfect.  It was held at my uncle's house and my mom and aunts made everything absolutely beautiful.  The best part was that I had almost nothing to do with the planning.  All I had to do was getting married, show up, and enjoy one of the best receptions in the history of weddings.

Then we got an update from my mom with this picture and it made us miss Katelyn even though I had seen her only an hour earlier.

So we went to my parents' house to pick her up.  I asked my mom to take our picture and somehow posed with crazy person eyes.

Then she took another picture and I looked a little better.

When we went to my parents house to pick her up, they surprised us with cupcakes from Gigi's.  They were a sweet end to a wonderful day.
