Today was Dave's birthday! We celebrated his 26 years of life with an all day event.
First, Katelyn slept in until 8:30 and it was wonderful. We woke up with the sun streaming through the window and birds chirping outside. Usually, we wake up to the shrill sound of baby cries and stumble in the dark to get a bottle for her.
Well, I guess I should say that Dave does. He is a good dad.
Next we all got into the car and drove to DENNY'S!!! Dave got a free Grand Slam on account of his birthday and Katelyn and I shared a Grand Slam. I thought she would really like the pancakes. They were warm and buttery and covered in syrup. I cut them up into little pieces and put them on a plate in front of her and SHE REFUSED TO EAT THEM! Finally, I had to stuff one in her mouth when she was caught unaware.
"Oh, I do like pancakes!"
On our way home from breakfast, I made the mistake of telling Dave that he didn't have to help with any Saturday chores because he was the "Birthday King." It wasn't that I needed any help with chores or anything. It's just that for the rest of the day, he insisted that I refer to him as "His Majesty."
Later, we went to the Sugar Land International Kite Festival. It was so windy. It was a great day for flying kites. There were some very serious kite pilots there. People brought some high quality kites that you could tell were expensive. There were some really beautiful kites and there were just so many!
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN was the MC!!!
My mom and Dave spent the whole time taking artistic photos of all of the kites.
After getting our "taters blown off," as my Grandma said, we drove over to Pepperoni's for the pizza lunch special. We all really love Pepperoni's. The pizza is delicious and we have friends there. They always bring Katelyn her own little bowl of feta cheese. It is her favorite food in the whole world. Today, they gave Dave a slice of cheesecake with a candle for his birthday.
He shared with Baby Kate.
After dinner, the party continued at my parents house where Dave opened his presents. I gave him a quilt that I stitched completely by hand. It took me FOREVER but it was to make up for his favorite blanket from childhood that I took over and then ruined. I hope in time, this blanket will become his new favorite and the painful memory of the other blanket will fade away. :)
Dave's favorite cake is strawberry shortcake which, in my opinion, does not even count as cake but it was not my birthday so I made him a double-decker serving. We sang and ate cake and celebrated another year in the life of my wonderful Dave.
This looks like suuuuch a fun birthday! I love everything about it. And the blanket you made is darling! He is so lucky.
ReplyDeleteAw! Sounds like you guys had fun filled day! Wish we could have been there. Tell Dave I wish him a happy belated! :)
