baby kate celebrates her independence

Baby K watched her first show of fireworks for the Fourth of July.  We ate dinner at my uncle David's house.  David always buys a ton of fireworks for everyone to light.  I have to admit that I am kind of scared of lighting fireworks so I usually watch from a safe distance.

This year a family from David's ward joined in the festivities.  They had small children that they allowed to light Roman Candles in the middle of the street by themselves.  At that point, I decided that it was time for Katelyn and I to retreat to the safety of the house.

David bought some really giant fireworks to light at the end of our party.  Katelyn and I came back outside to watch the grande finale.  I was worried that the loud fireworks would scare Katelyn but she loved it!  She spent the entire time looking up at the bright lights.  I assumed we were safe because at that point D was the only one lighting anything.  I was mistaken.  One of the large fireworks fell on its side and started shooting sparks right at the audience.  I have never ran back into a building so fast.

We had a great time celebrating Independence Day and Katelyn's first family holiday event!
